A normal day in Santa Cruz is kids at school or ditching and going to the beach. The weather being just perfect as always. Unfortunately for the Castrez family today would be a nightmare.
This family was a so called rich family. They lived in a nice neighborhood in a very modern big house. The father, Emilio or Mr. Castrez, was a lawyer who made very good money. You usually saw him driving through town in his pimped out Mercedes. The mother, Harper or Mrs. Castrez, was a stay at home mom that worked until last year when she quite to be able to spend time with her family. The husband and wife had two adorable children. Their oldest child is the smart “it” girl at school. Her name is Azaria. She is 16 and has beautiful flowing golden brown hair. She is already looking into colleges with New York University being her top interest. The youngest child named Coalten was their athletic child. Being only 14 he was an amazing soccer player. He is a freshman.
On the outside this seemed like the perfect family, but in the inside this family was a dark mess. A year ago Mr. and Mrs. Castrez were on the verge of a divorce. They have had many problems in their relationship. On the other hand Azaria does not listen to her father to save her life. She fell in love with a normal rich athletic hunk named Diego. Mr. Castrez did not like Diego at all. He believed that Diego should go to school and become a doctor, but Diego already got a full ride to FSU on a soccer scholarship. Coalten was always jealous of how Diego could play better than him. Mr. Castrez banned Azaria from being with Diego. That decision set Azaria off. She went on strike and didn’t eat for three full days. Two years ago when Azaria was a freshman she went anorexic to be as skinny as the popular girls. She ended up in the hospital. Mrs. Castrez made sure she ate. Mr. Castrez was a workaholic who was overly stressed most of the time. Mrs. Castrez was a skinny popular school mom. She would drive Diego to school in her brand new Mercedes ML. Both of her parents died in a car crash and she suffered from depression for several years. Coalten seemed like the only normal person in this family, but he also had a secret. Last year he tried to commit suicide because he was horribly bullied at school. Luckily his friend tackled him to the ground and took the gun. Nobody else in his family knows this. His mother is disappointed in him for not being the most popular kid in school.
On April 29th, Coalten waited outside of his school for Azaria to pick him up. Azaria left early for some reason so she couldn’t take him home. He waited for half an hour and when his mom didn’t show up he decided to walk home. Just as he was about to walk up his drive way to the front door he saw his mom pull up to the garage door. She rolled down the window and said,” Hi Honey. I will be in the house in like five minutes. I have to unload groceries.” She quickly opened the garage and drove her car in. Coalten entered the house and went up stairs to drop off his back pack. As he got downstairs he heard his mom open the door from the garage and walk into the kitchen. Coalten went to put his jacket in the closet. His mom called from the kitchen and asked if he had seen her cutting knife lately. Coalten said no. He knew it had been missing for around three days. He opened up the door and his father fell out. He was facedown. There was blood on the floor. Coalten freaked out and flipped the body over. He then saw a knife plunged into his father’s neck. Mr. Castrez was still bleeding, but dead. Coalten screamed and ran into the kitchen. Mrs. Castrez and Coalten then ran back to their husband/dad’s lifeless body. Mrs. Castrez screamed and called the police. At this point they were now both balling their eyes out. The police and ambulance were on their way. Just as Mrs. Castrez hung up the phone Azaria walked through the front door. She stared at the body covered in blood and just started crying. Mrs. Castrez ran to her and gave her a hug filled with comfort.
As the ambulance was picking up the body and the police were investigating, Coalten walked over to Azaria and sat next to her.”Where were you today at the end of school?” Azaria starred at him and then answered,” It was my free period and I decided to meet up with some friends and forgot to pick you up.” Coalten got up and just stood there. He looked at his mom and on the back of her shirt he saw what looked like a red hand print. He got closer to her and then perfectly saw the bloody hand print. Could it be from dad battling her when she was trying to stab him? He quickly switched that thought knowing that his mom was not that violent. He walked up to the cop that was talking to his mom and politely said,” Excuse me, but you might want to look at my mother’s back.” The cop starred at him and started to giggle. He then said, ”Hold on there son, your mom just lost her husband. She probably isn’t ready for me to be checking her out.” Coalten gave him the ‘are you stupid’ look, grabbed his mom and turned her around. At that moment Azaria ran into the kitchen. The cop yelled at his team and quickly hand cuffed Mrs. Castrez. The team ran into the kitchen to see a horrible scene. Azaria’s hands were covered in blood and she was washing them as fast as she could. The cops grabbed her and looked at the blood on her hands. Azaria fell to the ground with tears streaming from her eyes. It all made sense now. When Azaria gave her mom a hug her bloody hand left a hand print on her mother’s shirt. Azaria didn’t realize what she actually did until she saw how sad her family was. The cops started to talk to each other. Trying to blend in, Azaria got up quietly and opened the drawer where her mother kept the knives. She grabbed a big one. She slowly walked towards her mom with the knife behind her back. She whispered,” That skinny bitch doesn’t deserve to live.” When she was in stabbing distance of her mother she raised the knife. Just as she was about to stab her mother, Coalten tackled Azaria, took the knife, and screamed. The cops ran out of the kitchen and pulled Coalten off Azaria. They then hand cuffed her and took her away. Mrs. Castrez ran over to Coalten and look into his eyes. She said nothing. A little tear strolled down from her face. Coalten started to cry. He walked over to his father’s body to pray for him. He then noticed a letter in his back pocket. Coalten started to read the letter.
April 29th
I left for school and then came back when mom had left for her daily activities. She doesn’t deserve to live the life she is living. She let dad take the person I loved the most away from me. It’s okay now. When she gets home she will have lost her true love also. Dad doesn’t even deserve to be alive. I can and will fix that. I am not and never will be his little girl. I am grown up and popular with money. What else do I need? Hopefully he will feel the pain that I felt. If I am lucky both of them will be…dead. Coalten when you read this I just want you to know that I am sorry that I had to do this. You did nothing wrong. Dad was holding you back. Mark my word. If you do anything to try and help mom recover I will make you feel the pain I felt.
Oh and next time you see dad, which you won’t. I give you permission to tell him that I am still seeing Diego.
Love,
Azaria
Coalten put down the letter, pulled out the knife from his dad’s neck. He then slowly walked up stairs to his room and killed himself.
